Main Series
The main series games are the core games in the Pokémon franchise. In these games you assume the role of an aspiring young Pokémon trainer whose goal is to defeat eight gym leaders and the Elite Four to become the leauge champion. Along the way, you'll have to keep up with a rival trainer and bring down a criminal organization such as Team Rocket. While each game has its own little features and plot differences, there are some things that are consistent between versions, they're covered here.
- Natures, gives the effects of natures on stats and liked/disliked flavors.
- Type Chart, shows how effective an attack of a certian type is against a Pokémon of a certain type.
Games
The main series games are grouped into generations with each generation introducing a new set of Pokémon and plenty of other features. Here's a list of them grouped by generation:
Generation 1
Generation 1 started it all, its games were mostly on the Gameboy, with only Yellow being GBC-enhanced. Gen 1 had 151 Pokémon, with only 150 being advertised at first due to the fact that #151 Mew was a special hidden Pokémon.
- Red and Blue, known as Red and Green in Japan, these were the very first Pokémon games to be released.
- Japanese Blue, an updated version of Red and Green only released in Japan.
- Yellow, a version of Red and Blue that more closely followed the Pokémon anime
Generation 2
The Generation 2 games were sequels to the original games and were for the Gameboy Color. Gold and Silver could be played on the original Gameboy and Gameboy Pocket, but Crystal could not. Generation 2 added 100 new Pokémon for a total of 251.

- Crystal, a follow-up to Gold and Silver that followed a new plot that centered around Suicune.
Generation 3
Generation 3's games were for the Gameboy advance and added 135 Pokémon for a total of 386.
- Ruby and Sapphire, the games that started Gen 3
- FireRed and LeafGreen, enhanced remakes of Red and Blue
- Emerald, an enhanced version of Ruby and Sapphire with plot centered around Rayquaza
Generation 4
Generation 4 is the current generation, its games are for the Nintendo DS and it adds 107 Pokémon for a total of 493.
- Diamond and Pearl, the games that started Gen 4
- Platinum, an enhanced version of Diamond and Pearl with plot centered around Giratina
- HeartGold and SoulSilver, enhanced remakes of Gold and Silver that incorporate featres from Crystal
Generation 5
Generation 5 is the next generation set to be released in late 2010 in Japan. It's not currently known what the games will be called, or how many Pokémon will be added.
