Welcome to The PokéMasters, or TPM for short. We're one of the oldest Pokémon fansites out there. Founded by Pokémaster Kevin in 1998, we quickly became one of the most popular Pokémon sites on the web. In 2000, our community was born with the creation of the Pokémasters forums and the community has existed continuously ever since.
TPM's popularity eventually led to its downfall however. With ever increasing bandwidth costs, Kevin tried asking for donations and turning registration off temporarily, but his efforts failed. In 2002, TPM went down; the site was gone and the forums were moved to an EZBoard. In late 2002, a new site launched, and the forums moved to a vBulliten board, but the site lacked critical features, such as a pokédex. Add on to that the fact that Kevin's interest in Pokémon had waned, and TPM lost popularity.
With the launch of the second site, a project to create a new Pokédex started at the forums. The Pokédex was in development for two years, and just as it was on the verge of launching, the leader of the project, sgator, who had all the files on his computer, was nowhere to be found. After a final attempt to contact sgator, the project was declared dead. In 2005, a server move resulted in the forums switching to SMF temporarily and the second site going down for good.
Proposals to bring back the site were a perennial topic in the following years, but none of the early discussions resulted in anything. In 2008, following a discussion amongst the site staff, forum moderator mr_pikachu unveiled the PokéMasters Website Revival Project. Several members expressed interest in the project, including myself, Jeff. After being shown the prototype site that had been developed by the staff, which I wasn't satisfied with, I created my own prototype homepage and showed it off at the forums.
I was soon put in charge of the project and continued updating the site design. It wasn't until the annoucnement of HeartGold and SoulSilver, that the final design was completed, which was inspired by the color schemes of the Japanese logos of those games. The PokéMasters beta site was launched on May 31, 2009, shortly after the announcement to project contributors that a server had been obtained. Then, on June 19, TPM's third site officially launched, and a week later the design was updated to the current HG/SS style.
We continue to grow with content submissions from our community. If you want to contribute too, join us in the forums!
Enjoy the site!
